Understanding Growth Charts
A growth chart is used by medical persons and other such health care professionals to follow a child's growth over the course of the child's growing years. Growth charts have been created from observing the growth of large numbers of kids over time. The height, weight and head of a child can be compared to the typical growth of children of same age and sex to find out if the child is growing properly.
Growth charts can also be used to predict the expected adult growth of a child because generally children maintain a fairly constant growth without change. When a child grows beyond their previously recorded growth, investigation is generally practiced. For instance if a growth chart can show a decrease in the growth rate, this might show the coming of chronic illnesses like inflammatory bowel disease.
Growth charts are dissimilar for both boys and girls due to the fact that they have different pubic discrepancies and changes in final growth heights. Also in children with sicknesses like Down syndrome and other such diseases follow completely different growth differences from children without these sicknesses. So in turn, growth charts have been made to show the expected growth pattern of several genetic illnesses.
Growth charts are not intended to be used as a sole treatment instrument, but rather as a tool that can contribute to shaping an overall medical chart for the child being observed. The revised growth charts provide an improved tool for evaluating the growth of children in medical and research environments. As medical research advances and more things are being discovered about our bodies, children and our lifestyles in general, the growth chart is always changing and being modified to allow for the inclusion of other things and more up to date accurate measurement information models to go by.
Growth charts as you can see do play a very important role in troubleshooting growth and health issues in younger aged children, young adulthood and full adulthood. These charts can also be used for your own personal entertainment by tracking your growth over the course of many years just to see how much you may actually be growing. For those that do not know, there are many forms of growth charts you can use ranging from babies and up.
